Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an unmarried 26 year old overseer living with planter and lawyer Alfred Beck, his family, and 34 slaves on the Beck plantation at Rehoboth, Wilcox County, AL. He enlisted at Bridgeport, AL on 6 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
