Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 18 year old farmer at Coals Station in Randolph County, AL, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company B, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred as a Private to Company F of the 12th Alabama Infantry on 21 October 1862. He was captured at Winchester, VA on 19 September 1864 and was a prisoner at Point Lookout, MD from 27 September until 15 March 1865 when he was sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange.
