Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 20 year old farmer from Greenville, AL, he enlisted there on 5 July 1861 and mustered in Montgomery on 19 July as a Private in Company G, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware to 2 October when he was sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 6 October and was formally exchanged on 10 November, but died of typhoid fever in the hospital on 15 November 1862.
