Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was an unmarried 26 year old farm worker living with his parents, 5 siblings, and 3 slaves on their farm at Rockford in Coosa County, AL. He enlisted in Coosa County on 2 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 13th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was in action with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and was a prisoner at Fort Delaware from 7 July 1863 to 14 June 1865 when he took an oath of allegiance to the United States and was released.
After the War
By 1880 he was farming his own place at Rockford in Coosa County, but in 1900 was farming at Benson in Chilton County, AL. He had retired there by 1910.
