Before Sharpsburg

An unmarried 28 year old farmer at Millville, AL, he enlisted at Montgomery, AL on 19 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and was wounded by a gunshot to his right side and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a US Army hospital in West Philadelphia, PA on 1 October and then was a prisoner at Fort Delaware from about 24 November to 15 December, when he was sent to Fortress Monroe, VA for exchange. He was absent recovering from wounds through at least February 1863, and was frequently absent in hospitals through the rest of 1863. He was listed as a deserter from Chimborazo Hospital #2 in Richmond, VA on 10 February 1864 with no later military record.

After the War

By 1870 and to at least 1900 he was a farmer at Gainesville in Hall County, GA.
