Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an unmarried 14 year old farmer living with his parents and 5 siblings on their small farm at Rockdale/Eastville in Randolph County, AL. Giving his age as 17, he enlisted there on 6 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 13th Alabama Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his company at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863 and was a prisoner at Fort Delaware from 6 July 1863 to his death from inflammation of the lungs there on 23 October 1863.
