Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a married 38 year old farmer living with his wife and 6 children on his small farm at Rockdale in Randolph County, AL. He enlisted in Randolph County on 9 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, 13th Alabama Infantry. He transferred to Company D in June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was with his company in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September and at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was captured at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863, held briefly in Washington, SC, then sent to City Point, VA on 10 May for exchange. He was wounded by a gunshot to his right thigh at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863 and captured again, nearby at Mercersburg, PA on 8 July. He was treated in US Army hospitals in West Philadelphia and Chester, PA and sent to Point Lookout, MD on 4 October. He was paroled in the post hospital there on 27 April 1864 and transferred to City Point, VA for exchange. He was found disabled for field service and furloughed home on 24 May 1864, with no later military record.

After the War

By 1880 and to at least 1889 he was a farmer at Arbocoochee in Cleburne County, AL.
