Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 25 year old wheelwright living on the John Henderson farm in Orange County, VA. He enlisted there on 20 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Captain Peyton's Orange Artillery.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was killed in battle at Spotsylvania Court House, VA on 12 May 1864.

He married Lavinia Ann Wright (1827-1913) in January 1857 and they had 4 daughters.
