Before Sharpsburg

A 24 year old farmer, he enlisted at Yanceyville, NC on 29 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A of the 3rd North Carolina Infantry on 18 May in Raleigh. The regiment was re-designated the 13th North Carolina Infantry on 14 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was home on wounded furlough to about January 1863 and was promoted to 4th Corporal on 11 May. He was mortally wounded at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and died there the next day.
