Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old farm worker living with C.S. Anderson and his family on the Anderson farm at Calahaln in Davie County, NC. He enlisted in Mocksville, NC on 26 April 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company F of the 3rd North Carolina Infantry at Garysburg, NC on 15 May. The regiment was re-designated the 13th North Carolina Infantry on 14 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in a skirmish near the Potomac River on 5 September 1862, the day his regiment crossed the river into Maryland with the rest of Jackson's wing of the army.

The rest of the War

His mother Hetty filed a claim for his final pay of $67.83 in November 1862.
