Before Sharpsburg

A 19 year old laborer, he enlisted in Graham, NC on 8 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E of the 3rd North Carolina Infantry on 15 May in Garysburg, NC. The regiment was re-designated the 13th North Carolina Infantry on 14 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was captured at Sharpsburg on 18 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 21 September but never returned to his company. He was listed as absent without leave after 20 November 1862 and dropped from the unit rolls on 30 September 1863.

His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3, indexed as Barney Daniel. He's also seen as Barny and Barrett Daniel, and possibly as B. Densville - who was reported as desiring to take an oath of allegiance to the United States at Fort McHenry and "remain" in the North.
