Before Sharpsburg

A 22 year old saddler from Alamance County, he enlisted in Graham, NC on 8 May 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E of the 3rd North Carolina Infantry on 15 May in Garysburg, NC. The regiment was re-designated the 13th North Carolina Infantry on 14 November 1861.

On the Campaign

He was captured at Sharpsburg on 18 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 21 September and returned to his company in November. He was killed in battle at Gettysburg, PA on 1 July 1863.
