He enlisted on 29 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company F, 19th Indiana Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action at Turner's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to the US Army General Hospital at Camp B in Frederick, MD on 22 December and left the hospital on 26 February 1863. He was granted a disability pension in April 1863.
