Before Antietam

Son of a farmer, from Parke County, IN, he enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company A, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his hip in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #4 in Frederick, MD on 28 September and sent on to Washington, DC on 28 September. He was discharged there for disability on 30 December 1862.
