Before Antietam
From Knox County, IN, he enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company G, 14th Indiana Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his hand in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #4 in Frederick, MD on 22 September and was sent on to Washington, DC on 25 September. He was discharged due to wounds on 1 December 1862. He enlisted again, in Hopkinsville, KY on 14 March 1863 and mustered as a Private in Company M of the 3rd Kentucky Cavalry on 22 June. He was Sergeant Major of the regiment at muster-out on 3 August 1865 in Louisville, KY.
After the War
He began receiving a veterans' pension for disability in April 1874 and in 1880 he was a merchant in Pike County, MO. By 1890 was at Wellsville in Montgomery County, MO.
