Before Antietam

In 1860 he was an 18 year old living with his parents and 2 sisters on their farm at Bryant's Creek in Monroe County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company K, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability on 1 March 1863 and began receiving a pension in June 1863. He enlisted again, and mustered on 15 August 1863 as a Corporal in Company E of the 117th Indiana Infantry. He was promoted to Sergeant, and mustered out on 25 February 1864. He enlisted yet again, on 12 November 1864 as a Private in Company I of the 10th Indiana Cavalry. He was discharged on 13 May 1865.

After the War

In 1870 he was a house carpenter at Monticello in White County, IN.
