From Parke County, IN, he enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company A, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #4 in Frederick, MD on 22 September and transferred to Washington, DC on 28 September 1862. He was promoted to Corporal, date not given, and was killed at Stevensburg, VA on 25 January 1864.
