Before Antietam

Son of a farmer, he was orphaned at his mother's death in 1859. In 1860 he was a 17 year old farm worker living with Benjamin E Scott and family and his sister Eliza at Dover Hill in Martin County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 30 August 1862 as a Private in the 14th Indiana Infantry. He was assigned to Company C, date not given.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded by a gunshot in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to US Army General Hospital #2 in Frederick, MD on 29 September and died there on 23 October 1862.
