Before Antietam
Son of a master mason, in 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his parents and 3 siblings in Terre Haute, Vigo County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company F, 14th Indiana Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in the head in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He mustered out with his company on 6 June 1864 at Indianapolis.
After the War
In 1870 he was a plasterer again living with his parents and siblings in Terra Haute but by 1880 and to 1900, still a plasterer, had his own household there.
