He was wounded in the right arm in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was discharged on 19 October to join the US Regular Army and enlisted at Bolivar near Harpers Ferry, VA on 20 October 1862 and mustered as a Private in Battery C, 4th United States Artillery. He was killed at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863
