Before Antietam

In 1860 he was an 18 year old farm worker living with his parents and 7 younger siblings on their farm near Bridgeton in Parke County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Corporal in Company A, 14th Indiana Infantry. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 15 March 1862 and promoted to First Lieutenant on 4 May.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the left leg in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Captain on 18 October and was killed at Fredericksburg, VA on 13 December 1862.
