Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 32 year old farmer at Jackson Court House in Jackson County, OH. He enlisted and mustered on 2 September 1862 as a Private in Company D, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the shoulder in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to the brigade band on 1 May 1863 and to the 20th Indiana Infantry on 6 June 1864.
