Before Antietam

He came to America in 1842 at about 11 years old. In 1860 he was a 27 year old tinner (tinsmith) at Evansville in Vanderburgh County, IN. He enlisted and mustered on 7 June 1861 as a Private in Company E, 14th Indiana Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the hand in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, on 1 June 1864, and mustered out with his company on 6 June 1864 in Indianapolis.

After the War

By 1870 he was a laundry worker back in Evansville, IN and in 1880 was an iron founder there. He was still in Evansville in 1900, but probably retired by then.

He married Martha (?; 1833-1875) in Indiana in May 1853, and they had 5 or 6 children. He married again, Sarah (?; 1839-1921) in 1878 and they had 1 or 2 daughters.
