In 1860 he was a 17 year old living with his parents and 6 siblings on their small farm at Poplar Spring in Hall County, GA. He enlisted in Banks County, GA on 24 August 1861, and mustered as a Private in Company A, 24th Georgia Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was treated at US Army General Hospital #1 in Frederick, MD with no military record after 19 September 1862.
