Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a newly married 18 year old farmer at Phi Delta in Banks County, GA. He enlisted at Homer in Banks County on 24 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company A, 24th Georgia Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded resulting in the loss of sight in one eye in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 12 October and furloughed home for 30 days on 14 October 1862. He was detailed to the CS Medical Department by about July 1864 and was appointed 3rd Corporal that year. He served to at least 30 January 1865.
After the War
In 1870 he was a farmer in Marshall County, MS but by 1880 and to at least 1900 farmed in Jackson County, GA. He retired there, and lived in Commerce, GA, by 1910.

He married Mary Amanda Evans (1840-1876) in September 1859 and they had 5 children. He married again, Mary Tallulah Voyles (1857-1951) in March 1875 and they had 11 more.
