Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 16 year old living with his father, 4 siblings, and 18 slaves on their farm at Washington in Wilkes County, GA. He enlisted in Decatur, De Kalb County, GA and mustered as 4th Sergeant of Company C, Cobb's Legion Infantry on 5 August 1861.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Zelotes filed for his final pay in May 1863.
