Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was living with his parents and siblings in DeKalb County, GA. He enlisted at Atlanta, GA on 8 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C, Cobb's Legion Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the thigh and leg and captured in action at Crampton's Gap on 14 September.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the US Army 6th Corps field hospital in Burkittsville, MD but died there on 29 (or 27) October 1862.

His father William filed a claim for his final pay of $97.40 in March 1863; it was paid in April 1864.

His brother Joseph Lumpkin Argo (1838-1918) was also in Company C, was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in November 1863. Brother James was also in Company C and, like James, died of wounds in Burkittsville.
