Before Sharpsburg
Son of a successful carpenter, in 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his parents and 4 siblings at Hopeful in Burke County, GA. He enlisted in Augusta, GA on 18 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company E, Cobb's Legion Infantry.
On the Campaign
Initially thought to have been wounded at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and "left behind," he was killed in action there.
