In 1860 he was a 15 year old living with his widowed mother and 6 siblings in Newton County, GA. He enlisted on 1 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company A, Cobb's Legion Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His mother Rhoda filed for his pay of $74.13 in January 1863, which was paid in April 1863.
