In 1860 he was a 19 year old farmer living with his parents and 4 siblings on their small farm at Lithonia in DeKalb County, GA. He enlisted in Atlanta, GA on 8 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company C, Cobb's Legion Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father John filed a claim for his final pay of $82.73 in March 1863, which was paid in February 1864.
