Before Sharpsburg

A school teacher's son, age 23, he enlisted on 1 August 1861 at Decatur in DeKalb County, GA and mustered as 3rd Corporal of Company C, Cobb's Legion Infantry on 5 August.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died the next day.

The rest of the War

His father Joseph filed a claim for his final pay in March 1863.

His service from his Compiled Service Records,1 online from fold3. Personal details from family genealogists and the US Census of 1850 & 1860. His memorial is on Findagrave; he may have been reinterred in Washington Confederate Cemetery in Hagerstown, MD, but there is no direct evidence of that.
