Before Sharpsburg

Son of an overseer, he 1860 he was an 18 year old farm worker living with his parents and 4 siblings at Madison in Morgan County, GA. He enlisted there on 29 July 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G, Cobb's Legion Infantry on 2 August.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA foe exchange. He was formally exchanged there on 10 November and was listed as sick in hospital through December 1862 with no later military record with the Legion.
