Before Sharpsburg
He enlisted in Bowdon, GA on 6 (or 23) March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company B, Cobb's Legion Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot to his arm in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.
The rest of the War
He was admitted to the Patent Office hospital in Washington, DC on 29 September, sent to the Old Capitol Prison in Washington on 16 October, and on to Fortress Monroe, VA on 31 October for exchange. He was admitted to Howard's Grove Hospital in Richmond, VA on 4 November, but was transferred to the City Smallpox Hospital on 4 December, and was there to 31 March 1863, when he was returned to duty.
He was captured again, at Front Royal, VA on 16 August 1864, sent back to the Old Capitol Prison on 20 August, and transferred to Elmira, NY on 28 August. He asked to take an oath of allegiance to the United States there on 26 January 1865 and requested to be sent to Henry County, IN, where he had an uncle, but remained a prisoner to 29 May 1865, when he was released.
After the War
By 1880 and to at least 1920 he was a farmer at Ashland in Clay County, AL. He'd finally retired there by 1930.
