Before Sharpsburg

Age 17, from Conyers, GA, he enlisted in Decatur, DeKalb County, GA on 1 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company C, Cobb's Legion Infantry on 5 August.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Sharpsburg on or about 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled at Sharpsburg on 21 September and back with his company by the end of 1862, but with no later record with the Legion. He transferred as a Private ot Company D of the 3rd Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters by June 1863 but was wounded in action, probably at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July by gunshots to his left leg. He was furloughed home on 8 August and listed as absent without leave after 13 September. He returned on 5 April 1864 but was often absent due to his old wounds from 25 May 1864 to at least January 1865, the latest record in his military file.

After the War

By 1880 he was a stone mason at Conyers in Rockdale County, GA but in 1900 he was a blacksmith in Ocoee in Orange County, FL, and was a brick & wood mechanic there in 1910. He was farming at Ocoee in 1920, then 76 years old.
