Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old living with his parents and 7 siblings on their small farm near Athens in Clarke County, GA. He enlisted there on 5 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D, Cobb's Legion Infantry.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Lewis filed for his final pay of $124.13 in November 1862, and it was paid in February 1863.
