Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 39 year old farmer at Chanceville in Carroll County, GA. He enlisted on 20 March 1862 at Carrolton, GA and mustered as a Private in Company F, Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware to 2 October, then sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 15 October, but deserted from there on 2 November 1862. He was back with his company by August 1863, but again listed as absent without leave from 5 June 1864 to at least 30 January 1865.

After the War

By 1870 he was a farm worker back in Carroll County, GA.
