In 1860 he was a 19 year old living with his parents, 4 siblings, and 7 slaves on their plantation in Burke County, GA. He enlisted in Waynesboro, GA on 1 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company E, Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion on 8 August.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father Jacob filed a claim for his final pay in March 1863.
