Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 17 year old living with his parents and 6 siblings on the family farm near Carrollton in Carroll County, GA. Giving his age as 20, he enlisted and mustered on 15 August 1861 at Carrollton, GA as a Private in Company F, Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the shoulder in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He died in the US 6th Army Corps field hospital at Burkittsville, MD soon afterward, date not given, and was buried there.

His father filed a claim for his final pay in March 1863.
