He enlisted in Richmond, VA on 25 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G, Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion. He as elected First Corporal on 1 December 1861 and promoted to 4th Sergeant about June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action in Maryland in September 1862, place and date not given.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough to at least December 1862. He was mortally wounded by a gunshot to his chest in action at Knoxville, TN on 29 November 1863 and captured, and he died later the same day in the US 9th Army Corps hospital there.
