Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 24 year old farmer at Mannington, Butler County, AL. He enlisted at Greenville, AL on 1 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 9th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded by a gunshot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was in Richmond, VA by 29 September, admitted to the Camp Winder Hospital there on 16 October, and returned to duty on 4 November 1862. He was surrendered and paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.

In 1900 he was a farmer at Mannington, AL.
