Before Sharpsburg

Age 25, he enlisted on 1 August 1861 in Decatur, GA and mustered on 5 August as a Private in Company C, Cobb's Legion Infantry Battalion.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to a hospital on 7 October and was afterward on furlough at Lithonia, GA to at least December 1862. He was issued clothing in Atlanta, GA on 27 April 1863 and was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 2 July 1863 and captured there. He was briefly a prisoner at Fort McHenry in Baltimore, then sent on to Fort Delaware. He died there of disease on 27 March 1865.
