Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted on 1 August 1861 in Covington, GA and mustered as a Private in Company D of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion on 5 August.

On the Campaign

He captured in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was held at Fort Delaware until 2 October, when he was sent to Aikens' Landing, VA for exchange. He was formally exchanged on 10 November 1862 and returned to duty. He was promoted to 5th Sergeant, date not found, and was captured again, on 29 November 1863 near Knoxville, TN and afterward a prisoner in Louisville, KY. He was transferred to Rock Island, IL on 31 December 1863 and sent for exchange on 2 March 1865, place not given, with no later military record.

After the War

By 1880 he was a grocer in Atlanta, GA.
