Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was 27 and unmarried, with no children, and was a farm worker living next door to his parents farm at Madison in Morgan County, GA. He enlisted on 29 July 1861 and mustered in Richmond, VA on 2 August as a Private in Company G of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His father William filed a claim for his final pay in March 1863.
