Before Sharpsburg
Son of cabinet maker, carriage builder, and builder Elijah H Mixon (1785-1873) he was 22 years old when he enlisted in Covington, GA on 1 August 1861, and he mustered as a Private in Company A of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion on 5 August. He was appointed 4th Sergeant by September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
