Before Sharpsburg
A planter's son, he was 20 years old when he enlisted in Waynesboro, GA on 8 August 1861 and he mustered in Richmond, VA on 12 August as a Private in Company E of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion. He was promoted to 4th Corporal by September 1862.
On the Campaign
He was wounded, probably in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was home on wounded furlough from 14 October to 13 December 1862. He was appointed 5th Sergeant on 6 May 1864 and was with his company to at least November 1864, the latest record in his military file.
After the War
By 1880 and to at least 1900 he was a farmer in Burke County, GA. In 1910 he was running a general store there.
