Before Sharpsburg

Son of a cabinet maker, in 1860 he was a 17 year old farm worker living with his parents and 5 siblings near Athens, GA. He enlisted there on 5 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company D of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in the side in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and captured.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the US 6th Army Corps field hospital in Burkittsville, MD, paroled on 26 September, and in a hospital in Richmond, VA by 12 October. He was back with his company by December 1862. He transferred to Company K of the 3rd Georgia Infantry on 8 March 1863 and was killed at the Crater near Petersburg, VA on 30 July 1864.
