Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was an 18 year old living with his parents, 6 siblings, and 38 slaves on their plantation in Calhoun County, AL. He enrolled in Bowdon, GA on 30 July 1861 and mustered on 5 August as 2nd Lieutenant of Company B of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion. He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 16 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He transferred to Company D of the 3rd Battalion Georgia Sharpshooters, date not found, and was killed in action at Chancellorsville, VA on 3 May 1863. He was appointed Captain posthumously, to date from 5 June 1863.
