Before Sharpsburg

Son of prosperous farmer, clergyman, and slaveowner James Stripling (1808-1867), in 1860 he was a 21 year old farmer at Hickory Level in Carroll County, GA. He enlisted in Carrollton, GA on 20 March 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company F of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
