Before Sharpsburg

In 1860 he was a 27 year old farmer at Fairplay in Morgan County, GA. He enlisted in Madison, GA on 15 May 1862 and mustered as a Private in Company G of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was wounded, probably in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862, his "arm shot off."

The rest of the War

His left hand was amputated and he was admitted to a hospital in Richmond, VA on 25 September. He was discharged for disability on 14 October 1862.

After the War

In 1870 he was again a farmer in Morgan County, GA but by 1900 was farming in DeKalb County, AL and in 1910 was retired in Calhoun County, AL.

He married Mary E. Partee (1838-1880) in December 1855 and they had 4 children. He married again, Margaret M Robertson (1837-1913) in June 1882.

His brothers Henry and John Ford Studdard (1844-1862) were also members of Company G of the Legion; John died of smallpox in Winchester, VA in November 1862.
