A blacksmith's son, in 1860 he was an 18 year old living with his parents near Chanceville in Carroll County, GA. He enlisted in Carrollton, GA on 15 August 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company F of the Infantry Battalion, Cobb's Legion.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton's Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
